I booked my family vacation during the term because it saved thousands of pounds

When schools reopened in January, my children were not at their desks with their classmates.

Instead, they’re gliding down the waterslides and wandering the woods for our first family vacation of 2022.

We only have days off during term time – I’d rather not send my sons to school than be told we can’t go as far as we want.

Lucky for us we found a school that didn’t make much of a fuss if we booked a week here and there to save ourselves thousands of pounds.

I won’t listen even if they tell me not to.

Family time is a precious thing and it won’t be long before I have teenage kids who no longer want to have fun with Mom and Dad.

I don’t believe my child’s learning takes place in just one classroom.

There’s a whole big world out there to show them, and whatever chores they missed at school can easily be completed when we get home.

Anyway, half the curriculum doesn’t seem necessary to me. Ad up front, anyone?

I just learned what in my 30s to help my kids with their homework and I have a degree in English and make a living as a writer so I’m pretty sure my sons won’t be too much if they miss one little SPaG. here and there.

Experiencing language, culture, sport and heritage first-hand teaches children more than doing homework and looking at four walls, any day of the week.

That said, I never expect teachers to take the time to recap the lessons my child has missed. The school’s hard-working staff already have enough on their plate.

If I choose to take my kids, it’s my responsibility to figure out what they’ve missed and give them a boost if needed.

Our policy of school holidays only means that before the pandemic, we took city breaks in Berlin, Lisbon, Paris, Copenhagen and Valencia, as well as traveled as far as Australia and Dubai.

We took a break from a lot of activities and tried sports that we could never have at home. There’s no way we can afford to go all the places or do half of the things on our wish lists if we’re stuck on the day off school.

Plus, my key worker husband rarely gets to take the holidays, as all of his co-workers with school-age children are also trying to take leave.

Giving all families the same few weeks of the year away is a recipe for stress, not success.

It would be better if school holidays were continuous, like in Germany, and prices didn’t soar as soon as August approached.

The only time we booked a two-week stay in France during the summer break, with friends who didn’t take a break during school, it made me feel like it was too expensive, too crowded – and my corpse made me feel sick. We have to do it again.

I couldn’t believe it when a friend recently told me she was getting a ‘bargain’ for the October half term – she paid almost £1,000 to take her family of 5 out UK holiday park for a week!

Those prices are ridiculous, ripping off hard-working parents who just want to do what’s best for their kids. I took my sons a few weeks later and paid a tenth of the price for the same stay.

I know countless parents who have had to play around with the system a bit to make sure they can have a reasonable vacation during term time without heavy penalties.

From what I’ve heard, if you choose a week with a bank holiday or a start date in it, you’ll probably be fine, as long as your child attends full school for the rest of the time.

I’m sure schools have much better things to do with making police happy, just as parents shouldn’t worry about whether they can get away with taking their kids away with no penalty.

If the point of the education system is to teach people to think for themselves, it is a sad reality that parents are treated like naughty children if they just do that and rest whenever they want. which they need.

As far as I’m concerned, we should trust parents in parents, give families a break, and let schools focus on kids in the classroom, not attendance figures and fines.

Can I take my child out of school during the holidays?

Principals may decide to keep children off school during the school term and this can vary from facility to facility, so it’s best to contact their administrator’s office to check.

Schools will follow governing regulations along with their own discretion to ultimately determine if it is okay to remove your child from school.

If you are approved for leave before you leave, you could receive a fine of up to £120 when you return.

In some cases, parents have disputed the fine and ended up taking it to court.

But if you are found guilty, you could face an even bigger fine of up to £2,500 or even a criminal record, or imprisonment for up to three months.

A mother previously revealed that she take her six years old out of elementary school for two years to go on vacation and said he’s learned more from their epic journey than ever in the classroom.

Meanwhile, other mothers have complained when one closed an elementary school for refusing to let her take her daughter on a “once in a lifetime” vacation during the term.

Plus, someone else told her can’t take her son out of school for their last vacation together because it is not “exception”.
