“I didn’t tell my parents I had a kid ten years ago – they call me selfish”

The man had made it clear that he did not want to become a parent, but the woman decided to keep the baby and he kept it a secret from his parents for ten years

Sometimes there are surprise pregnancies. If the pregnant woman is happy to continue with the pregnancy and knows that she will not get any support from the other party involved, then that is entirely up to her.

This is what one man explained on Reddit – hoping people would tell him he’s not wrong.

However, he received a lot of backlash from angry Redditors for his behavior in this unique situation.

He explained he never wanted to be in his child’s life – he got a woman pregnant when he was 19 and ten years later his child’s mother asked him for help because she was unwell and needed help with childcare.

He said he made it clear he didn’t want to be a father

He wrote: “I (M29) had a child when I was 19. I wasn’t ready to be a father yet and I asked her to have an abortion. She declined and we decided that she could keep the baby and I would pay for child support but I would not interfere in her life.

“I haven’t told my family about it. Three months ago, while I was at work, I received many angry messages from my parents asking me if I had a child.

“Apparently my ex had told them everything because she is ill and needs someone to take care of the child as her own family refused to do so.

“They got mad at me and told me it was very selfish to hide their grandchild from them (I’m an only child and she is their only grandchild), they agreed to take care of her and brought her over to our house home (yes, I live with my parents to help them with expenses).

“I told them I couldn’t stop them but I still don’t want to be their father and they agreed. She has been living with us for three months, but everyone has forgotten our agreement.

“Two days ago my parents left her with me to go somewhere. I told them I didn’t want to babysit, but no one listened. As soon as they left, she started coming into my bedroom with various excuses.

“I finally got angry and told her to go to her room and not come out until her grandparents come home.

“My parents came back and freaked out when they found out. They called me an AH for being an ‘awful dad’ but I never wanted to be a dad and I’ve made it clear several times. Am I the A** *ol? ”

The man wanted nothing to do with his daughter

People were quick to point out that this man is certainly at fault, and some even pointed out that in ten years he doesn’t seem to have matured at all.

One wrote: “Person to person – don’t you have politeness? Do you have to be a miserable creature for a 10 year old kid? What happened to you that you are so unkind?”

Another said: “The original poster never had to be a dad – not even now. The mother of this child was in the picture until the grandparents stepped in when she really was old enough to fend for herself mostly.

“Don’t change diapers. Don’t wipe up vomit. No dressing. He doesn’t even have to feed her.

“The complete lack of empathy on his part is amazing. It would be one thing if he really didn’t want to be a father, but he should still have human empathy for a child in need,” raged one.

Another wrote: “I understand you never intended to be a father but the least you can do now is act like an adult. She hasn’t chosen to be a part of your life either, she’s just trying to make the best of a new and probably very scary situation.

“As long as you both live there, you have to at least do the bare minimum — which means actually spending time with her rather than sending her to her room so you don’t have to worry about her.”
