“My father was an officer in the US Air Force and we moved a lot – so much that I started my eighth school when I was 12.

My active eating disorder started between the ages of 10 and 11, but I can see that my relationship with food was always a bit dysfunctional. I coveted it and was always very aware of what was on offer. I remember sneaking home when I was six or seven to cut off pieces from a pumpkin pie that was cooling in our kitchen. I didn’t particularly like it, but once I started I ate almost the whole cake.
