I got a £180 SIX fine for driving in a bus lane in Bristol

A DRIVER has been fined £180 for driving in a bus lane in Bristol – even though he hasn’t been there in YEARS.
Dave Benson, 49, is shocked, first fined £30 after CCTV caught a car with his license plate driving illegally.
But upon closer inspection, Dave – who was driving a moving van – noticed that the vehicle arrested was a white Mercedes, not his truck.
And it comes from Bristol, a city Dave – who lives in Blackpool – hasn’t been to in three years.
In total, Dave received six of the letters, each with a new charge, bringing his total to £180.
Talking to Mirror, Dave explains: “I first started getting these letters about three months ago. Of course, I was shocked. I also found it funny, as any idiot can see it. wrong.
“After the fourth time I phoned the council and the guy told me I had to answer them one by one and basically prove it wasn’t me.”
He thinks the problem is that the camera misrepresents M as N.

But the council believes Dave’s number plate was copied.
A Bristol City Council spokesman said: ‘We have reviewed CCTV and the number plate shows that Mr Benson’s van was picked up in a car using the Bristol bus lane. .
“Therefore, it is possible that the number plate has been copied, Mr. Benson should report it to the police.
“We are canceling all fines that have been given to Mr. Benson.”
