I got fined for parking outside my house

A DRIVER has recounted how he was fined for parking outside his home – despite leaving his car in the same spot for 22 years without a ticket.

Mark Shrimpton, 62, has been notified of a fine by police in Mouswald, near Dumfries, Scotland.

He showed up to walk his dog at 7 a.m. – and when he returned an hour later, he found the ticket on his windshield.

I said ITV: “The ticket said I parked on an unlit and unlit street during the dark hours, but I’ve parked in that exact spot for 22 years with no problems.

“I always park there because my wife and daughter park in the driveway and there is no room for me.

“I live just outside Mouswald between the village and the A75 and it’s the only house on the street. It’s a country road used by milk tankers and HGVs so no problem.

“Police pass my house at least twice a day on their way back and forth for speed checks on the A75 and this is the first time I have been fined.

“I contacted the police, they said once the ticket is issued it cannot be revoked, so I will have to go to court because I won’t pay. One way or another, I need to know what the situation is because I can get a parking ticket a day for the rest of my life, even though I haven’t had one since. “

Mr Shrimpton, who works at Alpha Solway in Annan, is currently contesting the fine, which he believes makes no sense.

He added: “Perhaps if the police had knocked on my door before issuing the ticket, the problem of not having a ticket could have been solved.

“I can tell them I’ve been parked there for 22 years and even though police cars pass every day, it’s never been a problem before.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Officers in Dumfries and Galloway can enforce the law regarding parking that is deemed to be obstructing or dangerous and in certain other circumstances; including parking. vehicles on the road under certain conditions during dark hours without the lights or reflections required by law.

“Each incident is judged on its merits and, if deemed necessary, a conditional offer of a fixed penalty or a notice of a fixed penalty may be made, depending on the case and conduct. guilty.

“Recipients of notice of a fixed penalty may request a hearing within a certain period of time to review the circumstances in which the penalty was introduced.

“If a person receiving such a penalty fails to pay the penalty within a required period of time, or requests a trial, the penalty may be increased and enforced through the courts.

“Failure to pay the conditional offer of a fixed penalty is reported to the Crown Office and the Procuratorate of Finance for prosecution review.”
