I have to park half a mile from my front door…it’s a joke – I’d rather move

A DRIVER was left angry after being forced to park half a mile from his front door.
Matt Clubb is looking for another place to stay after the council moved its car park in Chatham, Kent.
The driver moved to his apartment in the city center because the lease came with free parking around the corner.
But the council car park at Slicketts Hill, Chatham, is set to close soon.
Instead, he was offered a spot at The Brook next to the Pentagon Mall.
said Matt KentOnline: “I have to find a new home now because I can’t walk half a kilometer to my car at night.
“Chatham is not safe during the day, let alone at night.”
He worries that the Brook multi-storey car park will be a dangerous place to park his car.
It’s rampant with anti-social behavior and drug use – and in 2019 it became the subject of a petition calling for action because it was found to be in an “appalling condition”.
Last year Medway Council decided to refurbish Brook car park.
Matt added, “The answer from the permitting office is always the same – they have to provide parking, but no dictate how far away it is.”
He offered to pay for a residents’ parking spot near his home, but was turned down.
He said: “Actually, I don’t have to make an offer at all as part of the deal when I moved in was that I would have free parking.
A Medway Council spokesman said: “We are currently looking into the resident’s complaint.
“It would be inappropriate for us to comment on this while we deal with this matter.”
