‘I knock him out – first round’: Jake Paul takes fight against Conor McGregor seriously

Jake Paul suggested he would knock out Conor McGregor in the first round when the pair would fight – even in a mixed martial arts match.

aul is 5-0 as a professional boxer after KOing two former UFC stars in Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Woodley held the promotion’s welterweight title while Askren reigned in other companies in the same weight class.

Paul, 25, took a gamble in MMA and challenged McGregor, who previously held the UFC featherweight and lightweight belts simultaneously, as the first doubles weight champion in the promotion’s history.

“Conor is on a downward spiral,” Paul told TMZ. “His limbs are all broken. So, stand up game, I knock him out – first round.”

The American was referring to the broken leg McGregor sustained in his last fight, a loss to Dustin Poirier. That fight in July followed the Irishman’s first loss to Poirier, who eliminated his old rival last January to avenge his 2014 KO loss to McGregor.

Paul continued, “If I win, Dana will [White, UFC president] must raise minimum wages for fighters. If I lose they can take all the money and whatever and so be it.

“But I know I can beat Conor.”

McGregor, who turned professional boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather in 2017, has not competed since his second loss to Poirier.

The 33-year-old, who was stopped by Mayweather in the 10th round of their duel, is targeting a return to mixed martial arts action in late summer.

McGregor is keen on a fight against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman to become the company’s first three-weight titleholder, though Usman is expected to defend the belt against Leon Edwards in July.

McGregor was arrested in Dublin last week for dangerous driving.

Paul also tried to get more air for his publicity by offering to set up a boxing match between Will Smith and Chris Rock after the Best Actor winner beat the comedian at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Before winning the Best Actor award for his performance in King Richard, Smith stormed the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to slap Rock in the face, who had made fun of fellow American Jada Pinkett Smith’s wife, also an actress is.

YouTube star Paul was quick to respond to the incident, writing on Twitter: “Someone is calling me ASAP with Will Smith’s boxing rep.

“I have $15 million ready for Will Smith and $15 million Chris Rock to get started. Let’s do it on my undercard in August.”

Paul wasn’t the only figure in the fighting game to react to the incident, with UFC President Dana White tweeting, “FINALLY!!!!! There is an #Oscar ceremony worth seeing. AND @chrisrock has a chin.”
