But the wife notes that she tips her room manager, who also takes care of cleaning her room — including vacuuming, changing the sheets, dusting, cleaning the small bathroom, and providing fresh towels.

Christine says having a room manager is another perk of her husband being a high-ranking officer, and insists that she and her spouse always tip him $10 (£7.60) a week.

She added, “Sometimes we’ll pick him up items at the port or toss him an extra $20 (£15) if he goes ashore for lunch.”

All in all, a typical week for Christine when living on the cruise ship costs less than US$100 (£76.50).

She explained, “Typically, we spend $20 on internet access, about $27 on tips, and $40 on specialty restaurants, for a total of $87.”
