I lost my iPhone 8 at sea a year ago but it washed ashore – I can’t believe it’s still working

A PADDLEBOARDER who lost her phone at sea found it more than a year later when it washed ashore – and it was fully functional.
Clare Atfield, 39, dropped her Apple iPhone 8+, which was in a waterproof case, on her board last August.
It washed up on a nearby beach this month, where it was found by dog walker Bradley Cotton.
The suitcase contained a medical card with Clare’s mother’s details so the dog walker could locate Clare and return the phone to her.
Council official Clare, from Havant, Hants, said: “It’s crazy that it’s still working but it’s working perfectly.
“Oddly enough, he hadn’t traveled that far.
“I started paddling in April 2021 and always carried my phone around my neck.
“I was paddling pretty far out at sea, but I fell off my board.
“I got back in and kept walking – but then realized I had lost my phone.
“It was pretty far out to sea, but it was in one of these phone cases, so it must have sunk and just stayed there.”
Single mother-of-two Clare was shocked when Bradley, a Southsea phone shop employee, told her he’d found it.
She said: “I never expected to see it again. I can’t believe it still works.

“The back is completely shattered, you would have thought water had gotten in.
“I’m stunned it hasn’t been damaged further, especially at how rough the sea can get down there.”
