A mother told how her son’s Christmas was ruined when he unboxed his PS5 and saw that Amazon had sent a replacement DOggy BED.
Rebecca French, from Cambridgeshire, burst into tears as her son, George, nine, made the discovery on Christmas morning.
She ordered the coveted console on Amazon, and when it arrived, she had no doubt that the console had been replaced with a puppy pillow.
Rebecca told Sun Online: “I ordered the Playstation on September 23.
“It came and since it was around the time the kids got home from school, I just took it off and let it go.
“When I got the chance, I opened the outer box and put it away for Christmas.
“Nothing from the outside of the packaging, down to the actual exterior of the PS5 box, gives any indication that it is wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the seals or anything. ”
But when little George, who was looking forward to playing F1, opened the gift on Christmas morning, the whole family was confused by what was inside.
The mother of two continued: “It was Christmas morning and there was a little note on his PS5 saying that the elves created magic to help him get the console because they were so cool. hard to find.
“He only received a few other small gifts because of the obvious value of the PS5 – so he left it to the end.
“He opened it up and got really excited and brought the box into the back room where we set it up.
“Then we opened the box and it was filled with a dog bed.
“It’s heartbreaking because he’s said to be the elf who helped get the PS5.
“Everything that we tried to do as parents – let it do that magic – it just fell apart.
“I don’t know whether to lie on the floor or cry. I cried and that was the first time he saw me cry.
“He took care of me all day and I couldn’t be more proud.”
Rebecca said Amazon could not explain why or how the £500 game console was replaced with a new dog bed.
She said: “As soon as it happened, I called on Christmas Day and I got a pretty quick response.
“The person who handled the call was very helpful and said she would present and I would hear back soon.
“But then we got an email saying that they fully understood my concern and they were sorry to hear that I received the wrong item – but the return window didn’t work so there was nothing they could do.
“I joined an online chat and I ended up getting a refund.
“But to get it was almost two hours over the phone and they made us return the dog bed before we got a refund.”
Rebecca and her husband Dave managed to buy their son another PS5 from Currys using the credit card they had received.
Rebecca explained: “Currys provided a new one but the reality was that we had to watch the magic tear our baby apart.
“The reality is that on Christmas Day, our lovely son must know that there are truly horrible people out there. It is heartbreaking.”
“All he wants to do is play F1 and be Lando Norris.
“I tweeted him because you never know, I just wanted to get some kind of magic back for my son.”
