“I told DS [dear son] he had a pasta salad for lunch,” she speaks. “Tonight he asked why we gave him ‘funny mashed potatoes’.

“Turns out the pasta salad was still in the fridge and he was eating a tub full of fat that I kept for the birds.

“Does anyone send their kids to school with what’s worse or are we officially the worst parents on Mumsnet?”

Everyone is in a frenzy. “How many of them did he eat?!” a woman asked.

“The parents weren’t bad at all, it was a mistake. Now that you’ve purposely sent him to school with a fat ball, that would be a different story,” another added.

And other parents admit they’ve made the same mistakes.

One woman said: “We sent our son to school with a tub of margarine.

“My brother once opened his school lunch box and found in it a dead banana covered in the finest cookie crumbs.

There is no excuse for this other than that my mother is a very busy and somewhat untidy woman.

“At that time my brother had very little left, so a banana and a few crackers could (almost) be a full lunch as a single meal. But the cookies didn’t survive the journey being rocked by a 5-year-old, so lunch that day included a banana wrapped banana. “

Another said: “I was a little bit representative of sending my kids to school with a sandwich made from moldy bread.”

However, no harm is done!
