I switched back to petrol after being trapped in my electric car and blocking a busy road for 45 minutes

A DRIVER returned to a petrol car after being trapped in its new electric motor – blocking a busy road for 45 minutes.

Mark Vincent had only been driving his MG4 for three weeks when it suddenly died.

Huge queues formed as he tried in vain to restart the electric vehicle while the horn and alarm sounded.

With 35 percent charge remaining, none of the doors on its 27,000-pound hatchback would open.

Mark was freed by a mechanic in Hull using a special wrench.

The 32-year-old said: “It was embarrassing.

“Everyone looked at me, I was afraid that I would never get out.

“I tried turning it back on using the app but none of the door handles worked.

“Lucky I didn’t need the toilet.”

A dealer technician discovered 31 battery failures due to an issue affecting all MG owners.

The Chinese-owned manufacturer is offering a free software fix, but Mark, from Cottingham, East Yorks, opted for a full refund.

He has now switched to a petrol Dacia Sandero.

Mark said: “That made me very skeptical about buying a new electric car again.”

Strictly speaking, Helen Skelton, 39, faced similar hardship when she was stranded in her electric vehicle in the dark.
