“I told my daughter-in-law she needed a shower – my son says I ruined his marriage.”

A grandmother, who raised 12 children herself, claims she was unhappy with her son’s behavior after a recent stay at his home.

Her son and daughter-in-law, both 23, recently had a baby boy and so she flew over for a week to visit them to meet him.

However, when she arrived, she was surprised to find her exhausted daughter-in-law, named Megan, rushing around cleaning up, having only found out that day that she would be coming over.

The house wasn’t clean and she knew Megan hadn’t showered in a few days. At first she blamed it on the chaos of early parenthood, but soon realized that her son, who is still on maternity leave, just wasn’t up to it.

After her son spent an hour at the gym, the worried grandma took care of the baby while Megan took a much-needed nap and shower.

Speaking on Reddit, she recalled, “In my 61 years of living on this earth, I’ve never seen an adult fall asleep faster.

After a day of watching things being done around the house, the grandmother wasn’t happy at all, claiming her son would just look at her and Megan when the baby was crying instead of actually doing anything to help.

Despite the fact that Megan just had a cesarean, he didn’t seem to do anything at all to help with the cooking or housework and she was disappointed in him.

The poster – who goes by the username u/Spiritual Progress938 – said: “I don’t normally get involved in my kids’ relationships, but he got on my nerves and no, he wasn’t brought up that way.

“So I told Megan she was a doormat and she smelled like she had an infection. I have said that she needs bed rest and that my son should do 100% of the cooking and cleaning instead of acting like a lone teenager.

“They had an argument and my son told me I was a ‘Karen’ and an asshole for calling his home dirty and his wife smelly. Megan and I didn’t fight.”

Her son has now accused her of ruining his marriage and told her she is the reason his wife isn’t speaking to him now. She wonders now if she should have stayed silent.

Her Reddit peers were quick to reassure this “mother-in-law heroine” that she is by no means a “Karen,” and applauded her for being there for her daughter-in-law at a time when she clearly needed help.

One person wrote: “Your son was supposed to be helping out. They called his ass and he didn’t like it. That’s his problem. Support his wife as much as you can and enjoy the time with the new grandchild.”

Another said: “You are exactly the person who had to put him in his place. He sounds extremely immature and needs to get up and become a father.

“We need more mothers-in-law like you who actually yell butt at their sons instead of praising them. I would be so embarrassed and ashamed if he were my son.”
