“I tried for years to have a baby – then my husband cheated and got my sister pregnant”

A woman has claimed her marriage ended in heartbreaking fashion after learning her husband was having an affair with her sister – and they were expecting a baby

Finding out your partner cheated is always devastating, but finding out it happened to a close friend or even relative is a whole other level of betrayal.

A woman has shared her heartbreak after her husband did an affair with her sister.

If that wasn’t bad enough, she claims it was them struggle to get pregnant for years – but her sister became pregnant with her husband’s child while she was still married.

The unnamed ex-wife revealed all in a letter to an anguished aunt, explaining that their marriage ended shortly after they discovered their sister expected and her partner went to help raise the baby.

She tells how he ended up marrying her sister – and since then the ex has had nothing to do with either of them.

It’s been five years now and she claims her parents wanted her to meet her niece and attend a big family dinner.

But she’s torn about whether she can handle it.

Write to Dear Prudence from Slate.com In an advice column, which has since gone viral online, she said: “When my ex and I got married we had trouble conceiving and heartbreak for years. I thought our marriage was strong enough to survive this, then I discovered he was having an affair with my sister.

“We had a huge, traumatic argument and my then-husband and I decided to move and start over. A few weeks after we moved, my sister broke the news that she—surprise! – was pregnant. My ex then divorced me to start a family with her.”

She went on to say that it was “financially impossible” for her to leave because she had recently started a new job and they had a mortgage, so she was forced to stay in a new town all by herself after her husband left .

She went on to explain that she and her sister have been taking turns attending family gatherings for years as she cannot bear to be in the same room with them. Her parents were initially angry with her sister, but they reconciled when the baby was born.

After her parents asked her to go to Christmas with her sister this year, she finally decided to check out her sister’s house Facebook Page for the first time and what she saw made her “literally vomit.”

“There I saw hundreds of happy pictures of them as a family,” she explained. “My ex-husband kisses her after childbirth, photos from happy first birthday party, family outings, etc.”

Despite the pain this caused, she questioned if it was time to grant her parents’ wish and try to tolerate their company.

As “Dear Prudence, Agony Aunt” Emily Yoffe, she was incredibly compassionate.

“It’s no wonder what you saw made you nauseous. The injury against you was tremendous,” she wrote.

“You’ve been in a bubble of denial for the past five years, so a tidal wave of evidence of the happy family life you think these scammers have stolen from you is bound to be overwhelming. If you had had minimal contact with them over the past few years and knew your niece a little, you would be in a different place emotionally.”

She urges the woman to take some time, possibly talk to a friend or therapist, and remember that her niece is the “innocent party” in all of this.

She added that Christmas was too “busy” a time to try out the first meetup, suggesting picking a random weekend instead.
