I tried Sennheiser’s latest headphones and they converted me to over-ears forever – The Irish Sun

To be honest, I don’t really like over-ear headphones.

While the sound is better than in-ears, I have an issue with wearing comfort.

I hate the feeling of a band on my head and my ears burn after too long.

Then I came across the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless.

They certainly tick the comfort box with ease, as do a few other important things like the battery.

But there are also a few tricky points.

Simple style

Despite the asking price of £299, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless doesn’t exactly exude luxury to the eye.

That’s not to say they don’t look good, they’re just a bit plain with black plastic and fabric.

This makes the entire headset feel very light, which is essential for comfort.

And when you put them on, you probably won’t notice because I’ve been so sucked into coziness.

The band is made from a springy rubber material that sits beautifully on my head.

And the pillows on the cans feel light and fluffy like a bake-off winner Victoria sponge.

At the same time, they feel sturdy and sturdy.

Unfortunately, they don’t fold fully, which would have been a welcome bonus.

sound on

Sennheiser doesn’t disappoint when it comes to ringing a tune.

Playing Jennifer Lopez’ On The Floor sends me straight to the party – deep, pumping base, crystal clear vocals that cut through the dominant sounds.

Now a bit of Madonna and her 1998 hit Frozen – the sound is beautifully 3D with various elements flying in and out so dramatically. You can feel each segment building as the vocals slide through.

You can customize the sound with the Sennheiser Smart Control app. It’s very easy to use.

But the star feature in the sound department is ANC (active noise cancellation).

Flight is the ultimate proving ground for this and it didn’t disappoint.

I felt like I cheated for avoiding that horribly loud buzz for 10 hours straight.

Under control

The controls all come from the right can, which serves as a touchpad.

Single tap to play or pause.

Swipe back to front to skip a track – and swipe in the opposite direction to go back.

Swipe up and down to adjust the volume accordingly.

While it performed well, I found it a little temperamental at times along the way, as I occasionally didn’t recognize my touch or didn’t play the way I intended.

The headphones use a Bluetooth connection, which has also dropped randomly on a couple of occasions – although I can’t tell if this was due to the device itself or my iPhone.

Battery Winner

The battery is a key feature of almost all electronic devices these days, and the Momentum 4 Wireless excels on that front.

It just never seems to end.

I would use the headphones about 4-5 hours a day and think, “These will go soon… for sure.”

They just kept going and going.

Sennheiser has a 60-hour battery, which is well in excess of what others offer in this price range.

The Momentum 4 Wireless seriously won me over-ears.

Good sound is a given for a big name like Sennheiser – the winning combination is comfort and battery.

I can wear these for hours (and hours) without getting irritated, which I’ve never experienced before.

So on that basis, they are here to stay.
