A DOCTOR did an eyebrow transplant – because she was tired of putting on makeup every morning.
Dr. Simone Maybin went to the same surgeon in Beverly Hills, California as model Chrissy Teigen for the procedure.
She said she would previously spend 20 minutes a day doing her brows – before spotting an Instagram ad about the surgery.
Hair was taken from the back of her head during surgery and transplanted to her forehead.
She doesn’t want to disclose exactly how much she spent, but the procedure could run up to $15,000 (£11,000).
Simone says: “I believe eyebrows are the frame of my face and have filled in for a while to get that perfect look.
“When I had hairs in the first few weeks, my confidence was high.
“They looked ten times better than I could have imagined, it was exactly the right decision.”
Teigen, 36, announced on Instagram that she was undergoing eyebrow transplant surgery last November.
She said: “I never wear makeup if I can avoid it, so I’m so excited for this brow transplant surgery where they take hair from the back of your head.”
The mother-of-two opted for the procedure after years of angry plucking of her eyebrows as a teenager.
She then posted an update showing her darker and fuller brows.
Teigen added: “It’s a bit dark from the pencil but it’s nice to have the eyebrows back. Teenagers: don’t pull them all out like I did.”
Simone, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, models herself and would never leave the house without her naturally beautiful brows.
She said, “Any other makeup I can’t do without! I’ve done a lot of different makeovers, models and bodybuilding competitions, and the standard of beauty is that they have to be full. .
“All my life, they’ve been well-dressed and full, sexy, and that’s all I know about them.”
Every day, single Simone will spend 20 minutes perfecting her brow shape with clay before going to work.
She’s never tempted by temporary solutions like microblading or lamination – because she’s content with her own makeup.
But when an ad for an eyebrow transplant popped up on her Instagram about a year ago, it was a blurry moment.
The doctor said, “As soon as I saw it, I was like: ‘I’m getting it’ – no questions in my mind.
“I’m a very analytical and very cautious person but as soon as I saw it, it was the procedure for me.”
Someone said that I look uglier, that I look better than before
She made an appointment with the stars’ surgeon, Dr Jason Champagne, before undergoing the seven-hour procedure on November 13, 2021.
Simone chose Dr Champagne for her first plastic surgery because she was wary that not all surgeons have as much experience with curly hair as she does.
She said: “If you think about it, my eyebrows aren’t frizzy and my hair is naturally curly. I chose someone who I think is the best in the world because that’s my face!
“But what do I want to be, be 50 years old and draw my eyebrows? So I said do it!”
She was sedated so she could relax during the procedure, before a local anesthetic was applied to her forehead and scalp, where the hair would be pulled.
Her surgeon removed about 5 inches of hair from the base of her head, with the follicle still attached, to transplant into her eyebrow for regrowth.
It takes about two months to start seeing hair growth, and four months before you get the full effect, the patient has to have the new hair trimmed and shaped.
Simone said: “I have mixed feelings – I’m glad I’m making progress but I’m a bit insecure because I don’t have the hair I want yet.”
The doctor took to TikTok to document the entire process, with many of her followers curious to see the final image and what’s involved.
But this also came with some backlash from trolls.
Simone said: “Someone said I look like Michael Jackson!
“Someone says I look uglier, that I look better than before, but when you share, you’re more open to it.
“It doesn’t bother me, it’s pretty funny, and yet, with so many negative comments, I have twice as many positive comments.”
Several commenters with an uneasy feeling around their brows booked appointments after witnessing Simone’s journey, which included a woman who lost her during cancer treatment.
Former Sports Illustrated model Teigen went public about her procedure on Instagram, posting about it last November.
Teigen shared a video of her face to show how her brows are growing, and captioned the clip ‘like weed I tell you!!!!’ Simone only learned about Teigen’s surgery when she saw the surgeon sharing her social media post – and then realized that Dr Champagne was also part of her procedure.
She said: “I think it’s great that her reason is to feel more confident without makeup.”
