I was fined £50 ‘absurd’ even though my car only parked INCHES on the white line

A DRIVEN has been shocked to be fined £50 after letting his car cross a white line just inches.
Martyn Longbottom, 62, parked his Mini in a Sheffield car park on Tuesday – and returned to find he had been pinged for “improper parking”.
Martyn said he plans to appeal the allegation – which he calls “disgusting” and “ridiculous”.
When he asked a parking attendant why he was fined, he was told it was because he had parked on a white line.
He told Yorkshire Live: “I said I had paid and had the ticket in the car so I asked what I had done wrong.
“She [the parking attendant] said I parked on the white line. “
He claimed the reason he had to park his car across the white line of the bay was that there was a “big truck” parked in the open space next to him – but it had already left by the time he was fined.
When speaking to the valet, Martyn said she “laughed” as he tried to plead his innocence.
He also said: “I didn’t commit a crime. I couldn’t believe it, I was told I should have parked in the bay.”
“It’s the end space and it [my car] just above the white line. “
The fine would be reduced to £25 if he paid it within 28 days.
Martyn also said he is in the process of making a complaint to Sheffield City Council.
The panel has been contacted for comment.
