AN EX-COP has told how he was fined £70 for stopping in a Tesco car park – despite never going there.
Paul Murphy parked on a “public” lane near the supermarket in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, on February 17.
He parked for three hours – but days later he received a £70 fine in his letterbox from Horizon Parking, saying he had “exceeded his receipt”.
However, he says he never went into the shop or the car park – and was fined “for no reason”.
Paul believes there is a camera in the entryway that “captures people” as they walk in.
He said Leeds lives: “I think there must be a camera and it pinged mine.
“Apparently there is an ANPR parking error behind Beeston Tesco. Horizon Parking tried to fine me for staying too long in the store lot.
“The problem is that most people would say, ‘I’ll finish if I don’t pay for it,’ but it’s not okay.
“It’s a lot of money to spend. I appealed and it didn’t take long.”
Two weeks after appealing the fine, he received word that the parking fee notice had been dropped.
The letter read: “Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding the above parking fee notice.
“Having fully reviewed the case, I can confirm that the parking notice has been canceled and no further action will be taken.”
Paul now warns others to always check fines received in full and not just “pay out of laziness.”
