I was on steroids to gain mass but now I had to spend £5,000 on breast reduction surgery

A MAN who took steroids to gain mass had to spend £5,000 on a breast reduction.

Danny Smith, 27, took anabolic-androgenic steroids to support his bodybuilder training.

The drywall builder from Manchester was always keen to maintain a muscular physique since he was young.

However, when gyms closed during the Covid lockdown, he was unable to work out.

Danny soon developed “man boobs,” which experts say can be a side effect illegal anabolic steroids among a number of other causes.

Danny felt insecure in his “out of shape” body and as his breasts grew his sanity began to take its toll.

He said: “I hated my body and put duct tape over my nipples to feel secure and was afraid to take my t-shirt off on holiday.”

In 2021 he underwent gynecomastia surgery, aimed at removing excess breast tissue, fat and sagging skin – costing him £5,000 in total.

Gynecomastia is the medical term for “man boobs,” but reduction surgery is very rarely available on the NHS.

In order to reach his fitness goals and “impress” his now-ex-girlfriend, Danny also started exercising again.

Danny said: “Because I had surgery, I couldn’t lift anything over 10 pounds for four weeks.

“My best friend is an online coach, so I spoke to him for advice and we created a calorie deficit diet plan together.

“After the gyms opened, I started lifting weights again and I worked out six times a week.

“Now I’m confident and I get a lot of attention from women.

“Mentally I’m strong and physically I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Eleven months later, Danny has achieved his ultimate body goal, but he says many sacrifices have been made along the way.

He stopped socializing and drinking on weekends, and his cravings for junk food were hard to ignore — but he didn’t give up.

He previously ate McDonald’s breakfasts and takeaways for lunch, along with high-carb meals like lasagna, cake, and fries for dinner.

Now there’s mixed berries and a non-fat Greek yogurt for breakfast, chicken wrap and peppers for lunch, and eggs, bacon medallions, and chopped tomatoes for dinner.

Danny shared his fitness and surgery journey on TikTok and Instagram, where he has since received 437,000 views and 27,000 likes for a post.

In the clip, he begins by showing himself pinching his “man boobs” beforehand.

Shortly after, the clip shows him wearing a vest-like bandage around his torso, which he removes to reveal scars and bruises.

Finally, he shows himself working out at the gym before revealing his toned, muscular physique.

Danny said: “I’ve had people tell me I’m their inspiration, which means the world to me and motivates me to be better every day.

“I want to learn more about nutrition and help people who want to change their bodies.

“Life in general is a lot better – I’m a big fan of feeling good and looking good.”

Viewers were impressed by Danny’s determination and the surgeon’s work.

“That’s damn good,” commented one viewer.

“A damn good surgeon. No scar at all,” wrote another.

One person said: “Huge respect dude. Amazing work.”

dr Hassan Nurein, a specialist in gynecomastia surgery at Harley Street, said: “Men who use anabolic steroids can experience enlarged breasts due to an imbalance in sex hormones that lead to enlarged breast tissue.

“This usually involves self-confidence, choice of clothing, limitations on social activities e.g. B. Beach vacation and even a visit to the gym.

“Breast reduction in men has become quite common, in part due to social media and increased awareness of the condition and the advances in surgical treatments that are available.

“It is crucial that this condition is first evaluated by your doctor and any co-occurring medical conditions or sinister causes are ruled out first.

“Surgery is the last resort when other means fail.”
