I was slapped with a £23,000 bill when my Audi broke down a few hours after the lid ran out

A DRIVE is fuming after Audi asked him to pay £23,000 for an incident he claims was due to poor workmanship.

Simon Elmore was overshadowed with his huge insurance claim when his Audi G7 broke down just days after being repaired – and just hours after the warranty ran out.

The contract manager explained that he brought his engine into the Stafford Audi garage in Staffs, West Midson Fire Night last year for a routine service.

Simon, 58, explained that he was having problems with the engine rattling, which he attributed to a problem with the timing chain tensioner.

Simon paid £150 for the repairs, the rest will be covered by his Audi.

He told The Sun: “I’ve been a customer for 20 years, with two cars, and everything is fine.”

But he explained that after a quick three-mile round trip to the shops a week later, he didn’t use the car again until November 24.

On November 23, Simon said he received an email from Audi reminding him that his warranty would expire that night, at midnight.

“I tried to do it on the app two or three times, but when I hit the ‘cover start’ button, it didn’t do anything,” says Simon.

On November 24, Simon had to make a 63-mile trip to Stratford-upon-Avon for work, stopping by the garage on his way home to get a bill for 3150 repairs.

“This is my first time using the car since major repairs,” he said.

“I got on the M40 and five minutes later the car wobbled to a stop. I had to climb onto a stiffener and fix my bearings.

“Two or three minutes later I hit the start button and it said ‘system failed.’

“I just thought ‘oh my god, I just got it fixed – I’ve driven less than 100 miles.”

Simon promptly phoned Stafford Audi, who agreed to look at the car, even though its warranty expired that morning.

The 58-year-old said the mechanic “would love to see what was wrong with the car” so soon after the repair.

After four hours of tiring waiting by the roadside, poor Simon had to tie his son’s leash to get to and wait for the car – while he drove his own son home because he was prone to hurt and could not stand out in the chilly November air for longer.

Two days later, Simon came in to pick up some things from his car and said he had spoken to an employee who assured him all costs would be covered by Audi.

He was told again that it could be an issue with timing, which Simon suggested could be related to previous repairs.

I said to him, “Okay, I guess the cost will be covered for that? And he said yes, the cost will be covered. ”

Simon later emailed the effect, which was seen by The Sun.

In their reply, the garage did not acknowledge or dispute that they would cover the cost.

He also extended his warranty over the phone, as he couldn’t get the app to work.

But to his horror, when he logged on, Simon saw that a whopping £23,000 had been attached to a new post-crash warranty.

“It wasn’t even in effect at the time, so as far as I’m concerned it was a fix that went wrong – the warranty is for future use,” he said.

SOME ORDERS

And Simon claims he was later told by the garage that the cost would not be covered – and that the breakdown was random, and had nothing to do with the most recent repair.

He stammered: “I know why they didn’t say that, because if they come back and agree it’s a matter of time, it’s an admission of poor workmanship.

“I can’t prove it, obviously, but it’s what I believe.”

He added: “I had an email in January saying ‘You need a £23,000 repair authorization or come and collect your broken car.

“I couldn’t afford the £23,000, so I told them I would have to come and get it.”

To his horror, Simon was later informed that both the engine and transmission had been removed from the Audi G7.

When he got to the garage, Simon said his car was “completely stripped down”.

Simon is now facing an unrepairable dilemma, or being dumped with a car that doesn’t work – and half of it in the box.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s a fix that went wrong – the warranty is for future use.

He says he has complained several times, including to the Audi garage headquarters in Crewe, but has so far had no luck.

Simon added: “They’ll just say it has nothing to do with them.

“They even lent me a car at the time because I thought it was their fault – that’s my point.”

An Audi spokesman told The Sun: “Audi UK is aware of the ongoing situation involving Mr Elmore and his vehicle.

“The fault in question occurred outside of the vehicle’s warranty; we are reviewing all evidence of Mr Elmore’s concern and will attempt to bring the situation to a positive conclusion once reviewed. .”
