A BEST man’s speech backfired when he joked about the groom getting married a second time.
Although the two are very close friends, the 36-year-old groom was outraged because he thought he was humiliated on his big day.
Taking to Reddit, where he can consult people about the situation without revealing his identity, a 34-year-old man shared: “I was recently the best man at my second wedding. of my friend, I was also his first best man.
“I saw this joke online and it made me laugh so I took it for my opening keynote I said ‘Okay….welcome back’ this got it. get lots of laughs, especially from the bride, it’s hilarious.
“Everything went well, the speech was over and done.
“Then, after a few glasses of wine, my friend told me I didn’t like the joke and how I embarrassed him.”
The groom also told him that “it wasn’t fun and I shouldn’t have brought his last marriage into this.”
He continued: “I mean, the best man’s speech will always be more hilarious than anything and more than that, it’s pretty masterful and it’s the only reference to marriage. his last person… did I really say that?”
Following his post, many people took to the comments section to reveal who they thought was wrong here – and the comments were shared.
One person wrote: “You’re a hole. Tell him your apologies and you won’t use it at his next one.”
And a second one agreed, saying, “But is it harmless? It seems to upset the groom.
“Perhaps he is very sad that his first marriage did not work out. Maybe the divorce was difficult for him. Maybe he suffered.
“We don’t know, so we can’t assume it’s all fun and games to joke about him trying again.”
But many others defended the best man, with one saying: “I’d say NAH – it’s a funny, harmless joke that makes people laugh and he has a right to feel what he feels – but die damn, joke.
“Welcome back, everyone. It’s me again. The groom said I did well with the last reception, so here we are.”
“That’s all for today, ladies and gentlemen. I hope to see you again – a third time is a blessing, isn’t it?”
If I were the groom, I would appreciate this joke. Not many groomsmen know how to break jokes that last longer than the marriage he’s there to celebrate. “
And a second person shared: “If the bride finds it funny, then others should pay attention to them.”
What do you think? Is it a malicious joke or a harmless joke?
