A TOP Facebook exec has revealed when we can expect the metaverse to be in full swing — and it’s not as far off as you might think.
The new virtual world could be habitable in about five to ten years.
Ruth Bram made the prediction during the tech giant’s gaming showcase, revealing some of the latest VR innovations.
Mark Zuckerberg’s meta-company is at the forefront of the grand technology project that could one day bring us all to connect, work, and play in an endless 3D virtual universe.
And gaming has long been the starting point.
“We believe the metaverse will build on this foundation to become the next generation of the internet and the next evolution in social technology,” said Bram.
“Both the hardware and software require more work, and it can take five to 10 years to fully come to life.”
The other big hurdle is getting the Metaverse to work universally across different apps and devices, allowing you to own virtual objects and move them wherever you want.
So far, most companies have jumped at the idea of developing their own thing.
We’ve already seen big restaurant chains and even a fashion week.
experts think By 2030, about 5 billion users will get on it.
And it could be an $8 trillion (£6.1 trillion) to $13 trillion (£9.9 trillion) opportunity in just eight years.
But for all of that to happen, the kit for entering the metaverse has to come down in price.
Meta’s own headset, the search 2currently costs £299 / $299.
