Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has admitted he doesn’t read too much into anything opponents coach Ronan O’Gara has said in his multiple media engagements this week as he attempts to correct La Rochelle’s demise in the Heineken Champions Cup final to plan.
I’d definitely be wary of anything there,” Cullen said.
“Is that the polite way of saying it? I would be very careful about anything the La Rochelle coach says in the media because I’m sure he knows exactly what’s going on in his own world and what he wants to spread to the world.
“So we take certain things with a pinch of salt.
“At this stage you have to focus on yourself. It’s very easy to get distracted by the result. For us, we have to go through our own rituals.
“It’s very easy to imagine what it will be like at the end of the game. It’s just so relevant. Good preparation leads to good performance.
“We have to do our own things right so that we can impose our game on the opposition, no matter who we play against, whether it’s against Munster this week or against La Rochelle next week. Everyone has to come up with a plan on how to stop a team.”
Cullen also urged his fringe players to take their chance in tomorrow’s URC clash against Munster at the Aviva Stadium.
As expected, Cullen announced the changes ahead of next week’s final, with one eye on La Rochelle.
With URC top spot already secured, Cullen has given many young players a chance to stake their claim, even if they are very opposed to making their way into Day 23 of the European finals.
“Everyone has to be prepared for anything,” Cullen added.
“Anything can happen. It was an incredibly unfortunate injury for Tommy O’Brien ([intrainingbeforeToulouse)whorananexampleandwasintheteamwhenthathappened[intrainingbeforeToulouse)that’sanexamplehewasrunningandintheteamwhenthathappened[imTrainingvorToulouse)dasisteinBeispielerliefundwarimTeamalsdaspassierte[intrainingbeforeToulouse)that’sanexamplehewasrunningandintheteamwhenthathappened
“This is the time of year when a player shows up and does incredibly well. It’s very hard to ignore.
“Our boys have to focus on themselves and put in a great performance for the team. Then the team is at its best.
“It’s a chance for our guys and some guys are very close. A number of players were in the squad for Toulouse on the day of the match.
“Other guys have the chance to show what they can do. Some have been looking for an opportunity over the past few weeks.”
