Workers who are going on vacation but aren’t sure what to write in their vacation message can relax and let the Icelandic horses do it in a bizarre stunt.

The crazy idea is part of a new Inspired by Iceland campaign.

Known as Outhorse your Email, people can request a special message written by one of three animals – Little Star, Rhymes, or Crochet.

A video shared by the tourism agency showed their human team setting up a large keyboard over which one of the three horses was passed to create the unique out-of-office message.

Inspired by Iceland wrote: “Did we really teach the horses in Iceland to type on a giant keyboard? Yes we have got that.

“Nothing ruins a vacation quite like an email from your boss.

“Luckily, Iceland has the perfect solution: OutHorse your Email. Yes, seriously!

“Iceland’s very special horses write genuine away notes so you can enjoy your holiday in peace.

“Although a little smaller than many are used to, they are strong, smart and unique with their 5 gaits and… can answer your emails!”

One person replied: “You could possibly get the same result after six glasses of wine, but that sounds like a lot more fun (and better for your liver!).

“Icelandic horses are not only the most beautiful of creatures, but it has been shown that they also have excellent business communication skills.”

Most of the messages are nonsensical, but the horses do their best

The idea came after a survey by the tourism group found that at least 55% of workers check their email while on holiday. Of these, 60% said their bosses expected an answer from them even though they weren’t at their desk.

Horses of Iceland’s Jelena Ohm said: “We were given a very large replica of the keyboard to help them get used to walking over it.

“I think they really enjoyed themselves, they played really well and had a little bit of fun too.

“I think you’ll be able to see that, and yes it was a great day.”

Despite the horses’ best efforts, most of their answers were “qwfghhhhhhhtututjtiu9p”.

Sigríður Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, Head of Visit Iceland, said: “When visitors travel to Iceland, we want them to experience everything our nation has to offer, from stunning settings to endless landscapes and friendly faces.

“With our ‘OutHorse Your Email’ service, they can do just that, taking the pressure off of having to be online all the time and instead allowing them to be present throughout their journey.”
