They even told viewers what exact temperature to set the thermostat to in order to best avoid mold growth.

The first important tip is to ventilate your home well and air it regularly to allow trapped moist air to escape.

Opening windows when it’s warm enough is the best way to achieve this.

However, when it’s too cold for that, homeowners can also use devices like dehumidifiers and humidity meters to keep the air dry.

Speaking of temperature, keeping the thermostat on a constant setting often helps reduce humidity.

The TikTokers revealed that the World Health Organization recommends heating your home to 18-21°C for best results.

Most of the moisture in a home often comes from the bathroom from hot baths or showers, and the genius experts have lifehacks for that too.

Closing the bathroom door while bathing to prevent humid air from escaping to the rest of the property is one such practical recommendation.

Another option is to wipe surfaces with a cloth or squeegee to remove excess water afterwards.

Wipe down your windows too, paying special attention to the edges to ward off mold.

Finally, using lids when cooking prevents steam from escaping and the air from getting damp, while drying clothes either outdoors or in a well-ventilated area is a must.

Online viewers praised the hacks and even offered their own advice.

One wrote: “Incorporate plants in your house too.

“Since I’ve had them in my bathroom, I haven’t gotten mold anymore. They soak up steam and water droplets.”

Another recommended: “Keep the vents at the top of your windows open at all times. You need air flowing through your house.”

However, others were skeptical that they could afford to keep their heating constant.

One said: “I wish, but I can’t turn on my heating this winter because of the cost of living crisis.”

Another joked: “Opening a window in a country like the UK just brings in more humidity.”
