” Generally, that’s what we found – that they often follow car keys.

”We all feel guilty coming home from a hard day and putting our car keys aside and not thinking about it anymore.

“If you have a low-security key or a badly damaged key, that’s just adding fuel to the fire,” she said.

To avoid losing your valuables, Elizabeth recommends keeping them out of sight and keeping your possessions safe.

” Cars are obviously high value, easy target.

”We had people get off while their car was driving away. ”

This warning comes after homeowners were urged to take extra precautions such as the thief is using a soldering iron breaking into house.

“The reason intruders use the blower is that they’re trying to get the handle out of the way around it, so they can grab hold of the lock and then crack it.

“On standard locks, once the lock is locked, the door opens.

” So it’s all about gaining access to try and get a good hold of that padlock. “

Home security experts insist on investing in impact-resistant locks to prevent such easy break-ins.
