GUESTS may assume a hotel room is clean when they check in for a night’s stay.
But a hotel employee revealed that hotels often don’t change bed sheets between guests.
A Tiktok user with a handle @hotel_hacks_ explains that housekeepers don’t have a lot of time to clean each room – while often working for minimum wage – and they can take a shortcut by avoiding changing bed sheets.
She also points out that some hotels outsource their laundry services and are too expensive to pay for linens that are washed daily.
“Butlers only have 30 minutes to clean a room and 45 minutes to clean a suite,” she said.
“Do you really think they have time to wash each bed sheet and each towel after each reception? No.
“Most hotels outsource their laundry service and it’s too expensive to do it after every guest.”
She then reveals that there’s only one way to make sure the sheets are clean on your bed – but it won’t make you popular with the hotel staff.
“So here’s a tip: you can ask reception for fresh and clean linen upon check-in, or bring your own,” she said.
The video has been viewed 27,000 times and viewers are disgusted that they may have slept on used sheets.
One person wrote: “It’s so annoying to think you’re sleeping [on] other people’s dead skin cells. Take hotels out of business. “
Another wrote: “OMG! Disgusting,” and a third wrote, “I’m paying hundreds for used papers? No.”
But another hotel employee has revealed how overworked cleaning staff are and that they have even less time to clean rooms at their job.
They wrote: “Our Marriott gave us 10 minutes per room and suite. Bed sheets and towels folded if dry and sheets if unstained. Plenty of air freshener, no need. rag.”
Other hotel employees have revealed that it’s not just bed sheets that aren’t washed between guests.
