I’m a midwife and rubbing your baby’s belly does NOT help them get sick

Making sure your baby is healthy and happy is paramount.

Parents can spend hours burping their baby and trying to help a baby when stuck in discomfort.

Well, this hack might just solve that thorny problem forever.

In one Tiktok, The Enchanted Nanny took her son to see Osteopath Lucy at The Practice in Ferndown and shared a tip to help any baby with gas problems.

Instead of ‘polishing’ an infant’s belly or rubbing it in a circular motion, there is a better way to relieve pain.

In the video, the nurse explains that the ‘balling’ motion doesn’t work at all and parents should create some movement for the baby to digest.

She explains as she demonstrates that you need to hold the infant firmly in the center and then slowly move them in a clockwise direction.

Lucy said: “If the babies don’t get a chance to move the milk can move too slowly through it and then it can ferment and create wind in their stomachs and that’s painful.

“A lot of people will talk about bike legs, putting their feet up but if they’re uncomfortable it can be helpful.”

“For the rest of the time, you want as much space in your belly as possible because it gives things a chance to move around.

“Pick him up and move him in a figure eight,” Osteopath Lucy says as she shows how to do it with the baby.

Enchanted Nanny describes herself as: “A mother of four who has been a nanny for 17 years.”

She captioned the video: “Digestive help for babies with colic or wind blows.”

The helpful video has received 2.6 million views with many observing her son’s calm, as one saw: “Look at his face with relief” and: “The baby looks so relaxed” .”

While another expressed jealousy, saying: “Honestly, that looks like it would feel good to me too.”

Some even want to try it with their adult mates, as they say, “I’ll try it with my 372-month-old boyfriend.”

Another had a similar opinion when asked: “Does this work for hot-tempered husbands too?”
