I’m a parking attendant and I love issuing tickets

Park wardens are some of the most hated people in Britain, but that hasn’t stopped this one loving job.

We spoke to a supervisor who likes to issue tickets and has no sympathy for drivers who are wrong.

The supervisor said, “I’ll be dropped off by my boss in crowded areas when my shift starts. We know where and when drivers park illegally – and yes, we target you.

“When I work the morning shift, I am dropped off in the school areas. We get so many complaints about parents and their garbage dumps that we have to patrol the areas.

“We target specific schools – so if complaints are called to the school, that school goes on our target list.”

And don’t think making excuses with this overseer will get you anywhere.

They continued: “The lies people tell to get out of a fine are quite shocking.

“You get the sob stories all the time: ‘I’m late!’ or ‘I forgot something at home!'”

Then there are those who even claim that a relative has died.”

Religious churchgoers are not spared either.

“The areas of residents near places of worship on Sunday mornings are another hot spot for us. They may be godly people in church praying and singing, but outside their cars are everywhere.

“The same goes for those who go to the mosques – they also park where they please.”

Job satisfaction goes beyond handing out tickets – the work-life balance is right too.

“Life as a traffic cop is sweet. I work 37.5 hours a week.

“Four years ago I found myself in a crappy job working ridiculously long hours and making stupid money. That’s why I applied to the municipal administration.

“Contrary to what the public thinks, I have NO incentive to issue tickets. If it were me, I would be a millionaire.”

But how about canceling a ticket when you come back and find the guard was standing next to your engine?

“People try to get out of a parking ticket. But once it’s issued I can’t cancel it.

“People handed it back to me, taped one on my back, torn another in front of me. People get very angry because they screwed up and parked in the wrong place.”

But you might be surprised who causes the Guardians the most distress as they go about their business.

“The worst offenders for illegal parking are men. This is due to arrogance and laziness. However, when they get a ticket, many take a “That’s a fair cop, boss” attitude.

“The worst for abuse? They’re women – they can be bloody vicious.”
