BETWEEN running to school, cleaning the kitchen and hanging out the laundry, it seems like there is no time to exercise.
Being short on time coupled with the price of gym equipment is enough to put anyone off.
It can be easy to envy celebrities who follow rigorous workout programs with expensive equipment and personal trainers coming to their homes.
Not to mention diet – which is an important part of weight loss, and for most people shedding pounds cannot be achieved with exercise alone.
But if you want to get toned and feel great while doing it, one personal trainer showed how you can work out without spending a penny using household items like pillows and towels.
Speaking to The Sun, pre- and post-natal fitness trainer Lydia Rees said fitness should be accessible to everyone.
Here Lydia goes through the four exercises you can do at home.
Towel twist while seated
The first exercise is a basic exercise. Exercising this part of your body is important as it will help you lay a good foundation.
Lydia, who is also the founder of Ashina Active, said, “Russian twists help build a strong core by contracting your abs to maintain the seated position while engaging your obliques as you rotate your midsection.”

Explain how to do the exercise Lydia said you should start sitting down.
“Sit up straight with a flat back, avoid hunching your shoulders towards your hips and rounding your lower back.
“Concentrate on rotating from your core and not your shoulders. You can keep your heels on the ground or you can lift them off the ground to challenge yourself.”
“Keep your core engaged and keep the tension on the towel as you twist,” Lydia added.
You should do 20 repetitions (ten on each side).
Book core exercise
For the next exercise, grab a book and lay it on the floor.
Lydia said this move takes a little practice and can build up over time – so don’t get discouraged if you don’t master it right away.
She explained that your thighs should be perpendicular to the floor and your shins should be parallel to the floor.
Next, make sure your core is engaged as you lower your legs and keep everything under control (this can be challenging).
“Bring your legs close to the floor and then come back.
“You really have to concentrate on holding the book steady so it doesn’t fall off your shins.
“You also need to keep your back flat on the floor using your core. If you feel like you’re losing that position during the movement, then stop right there, as that’s your range of motion for now.
“Over time, you’ll get stronger and be able to stretch your legs lower,” Lydia said.
do that ten times.
Sit ups with pillows
The third exercise involves a couch pillow or a pillow from your bed.
To perform this move, Lydia said, you should lie overhead with your legs straight and arms outstretched, holding your pillow.
Slowly lift your upper back off the floor while stretching your arms overhead, hold for a few seconds and tighten your abs before lowering back to the starting position.
do that ten times.
Climbers with socks
Next is climbers, this only works if you have laminate or wood floors and aren’t working on carpet, and it’s best to wear socks so you can slip.
“This is a fun exercise that not only engages your core but also works your legs,” Lydia said.
She explained that from a high plank position, you engage your core and slide your right foot forward to bring your right knee to your chest.
“You should move quickly but in a controlled manner, keeping your core engaged, returning to the starting position and bringing your left foot forward to bring your left knee to your chest,” she explained.
You should do this 20 times, ten on each leg.
It’s important to note that it’s difficult to target fat loss, especially in problem areas like the stomach.
But these exercises combined with a healthy diet could help you get rid of excess fat you may be holding around your stomach.
