I’m a sexpert – so you should NEVER use sex toys two days in a row (even if you clean them)

A SEX expert has revealed that you should never use sex toys again within 24 hours — even after you’ve cleaned them.

Obviously, after you got dirty, whatever toys you used got dirty too.

It's important to remember to wash sex toys and not use them again for 24 hours, said one expert

It is important that you clean them to prevent exposing yourself to dangerous insects the next time the toys appear.

But one expert has explained that sometimes, despite a good scrub, some germs linger for around 24 hours.

Pippy Murphy, the sex and relationship guru condoms.comsaid: “Some studies show that even if a sex toy is washed, some viruses can remain on it for up to 24 hours after cleaning.

“With that in mind, you should exercise caution when using a toy and refrain from using it for 24 hours after it was last cleaned.”

dr Deborah Lee added, “Good hygiene is paramount when it comes to inserting objects into the vagina or rectum.

“Bacteria like Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli and Campylobacter can all be spread through sex toy use, as can hepatitis A, B and C, chlamydia and gonorrhea.

“If you don’t follow the advice, you risk traumatizing the genital area, damaging your genital tissues, or developing an infection or an allergic reaction.”

Pippy has put together some tips to keep in mind when caring for your toy to ensure you are safe…

You should clean your toy after each use.

While this may sound tedious, it makes sense because with each use you risk getting bacteria on it that you don’t want near your genitals.

A simple combination of soap and water can clean most sex toys.

Fortunately, however, most silicone, glass, metal, or PVC sex toys can be cleaned with just warm, soapy water.

You should do this for at least 20 seconds – the same time you should spend washing your hands.

However, make sure you use a mild, unscented hand wash so you don’t upset your PH balance and cause an infection.

Use a special toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies.

If the toy has ridges or crevices that can trap dirt, use a soft-bristled toothbrush specially designed for the purpose.

You should then use clear water for a final rinse.

NEVER put your sex toys in the dishwasher – anything with electrical components will be ruined, plus the dishwasher leaves residue that you don’t want to get inside.

Instead, you can boil any silicone, glass, or metal toy (without electrical parts) for 1-3 minutes.

Once you have cleaned your sex toy, place it on a clean paper towel and allow it to air dry.

This is the best way to prevent lint from sticking to the toy and causing potential infection, while allowing the nooks and crannies to dry completely.
