Like brushing our teeth or washing our face, applying deodorant is something we do on autopilot every morning.
But while we never thought of our trusty roll-off, this skincare guru claims there’s a much more effective alternative to traditional deodorants.
And over time, she claims you can go days without putting anything on your pitting and STILL smelling as clean as a whistle.
In a spread TikTok That’s more than 35,000 “likes”, the biochemist who runs the site E4Cosmetics claims that glycolic toners – commonly used to lighten skin – also have a desirable effect on your underarms.
Use The Ordinary’s £6.80 product, She wrote: “Best tip I learned in two years!!

“You’ll never need to use deodorant again!”
So how does it work? Talking to Today, dermatologist Dr. Marisa Garshick says toner affects the pH of the skin – not prevents perspiration like other deodorants.
“Glycolic acid is thought to help with body odor by lowering the pH of the skin and making it harder for odor-causing bacteria to survive,” she explains.
“By exfoliating dead skin cells and lowering the skin’s pH, it can also help prevent body odor by preventing buildup and making bacteria less likely to lead to odors.”
Furthermore, TikTok viewers swear by life hacks and say that they only have to use acid toner a few times a week.
One person replied: “I started doing it every day. Now I only have to do it twice a week. I don’t use deodorant unless I know I’m going out and sweating. effective.”
Another added: “I do it every two days and it really doesn’t smell anymore!”
A third wrote: “I sprayed it on. Works great!!”
Is it safe to use Glycolic Acid under the arm?
- Do patch test first
- Choose an acid with a lower percentage to start
- Only use it twice a week to start
- Dilute it with water at first
- Stop if you feel uncomfortable
But before you rush to buy it, experts warn that you should ALWAYS do a patch test first to make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin.
In a follow-up video, she writes: “Choose a low AHA [to begin with].
“Start with doing it twice a week
“Dilute it and stop immediately when you feel sensitive.”
