But one expert has said the way you wash yourself could actually be causing your hair to fall out.

Sam Cinkir, CEO of First Medical Group said that people who take hot showers are most at risk of damaging their luscious locks.

He explained that this is due to the effect hot water has on your circulation and the overall health of your strands.

“Most people love a hot shower before or after a long day.

“It can help us relax, but a shower that’s too hot can do a lot of damage to your skin and hair.

“Hot water slows blood flow, and your scalp needs good blood flow to promote healthy hair growth.”

The hair guru explained that a steamy shower can also make your hair more brittle and prone to breakage, which in turn leads to hair breakage hair loss.

This is because hot water on the scalp opens up the pores and weakens the hair roots, making them easier to detach.

“Washing with warm water opens your pores enough to clean out your roots and scalp, but not enough to cause damage and hair loss,” he added.

But it’s not just hair loss that hot showers can cause and if you suffer from it shedyou might want to turn the temperature down.

Mr Cinkir stressed that scalp inflammation, which is where the skin tissue on your head becomes damaged and inflamed and irritated, can make hair loss worse because it interferes with the skin’s ability to absorb the oxygen and nutrients your scalp needs to function to get healthy hair.

“Using water at such a high temperature that it damages your scalp can not only be uncomfortable, it can also lead to extremely dry skin that causes dandruff.

“Dandruff could be a common hair problem, it’s not comfortable for anyone who suffers from it and should be avoided if possible.”

Speaking of washing your hair in general, Mr Cinkir said that a shower that’s too hot can dry out your hair, making it frizzy and difficult to manage.

He added, “It can also strip your hair of its natural oils, and your body will work to replace those oils, causing your hair to become greasy faster.”

So what’s the solution?

No one wants an ice cold shower and Mr Cinkir said a happy medium is the best way forward.

He said to take a shower in warm water and then rinse your hair with cold water.

“Flushing with cold water has many benefits, including improved circulation, preserving natural oils and maintaining a smooth texture by locking in moisture,” he added.
