AN ELITE cop believes the truth is out there after being inundated with UFO reports from co-workers.
Roy Teague, an inspector with the West Midlands Force, teamed up with retired detective John Hanson to write a book about police sightings called Policing the Haunted Skies.
Roy hopes to repeat the success after receiving countless new accounts that he couldn’t fit into a book.
Roy, who works on the Armed Response Team, said: “Earlier this year I made an appeal to police and support personnel, whether current on duty or retired, who have witnessed or investigated a UFO incident .
“The response was so overwhelming that it couldn’t possibly fit into a single book, so I’m working on Volume 2 now.
“All information made available to me will be treated as strictly confidential and, if requested, anonymity will be absolutely guaranteed.”
Roy became interested in UFOs when he turned on the TV after coming home from an late shift.
By sheer coincidence, he ended up watching a documentary about mysterious sightings over US Air Force bases.
He said: “In the back of my mind, I could only wonder why would hundreds of military personnel make up such a fantastic story?
“For me, it’s the professionals who give more detailed testimonials than perhaps others because of their training.”
As his fascination with the subject grew, he began gathering information on British sightings and decided to put his findings into book form.
He said the reason for writing and publishing a book on the subject is simple: “I want to know the truth. Are we alone in the universe or not?”
Last year, former detective John Hanson opened a real X-Files office with 250,000 documents dating back more than 40 years.
The retired West Midlands detective’s UFO center in Alcester, Warwickshire can be visited by appointment.
His interest in UFOs began in 1995 after his son Chris, a PC, along with other Bobbies, responded to 999 calls about a UFO sighted over Birmingham.
John, 76, said: “The public [were] around 6:15 p.m. an object with a blue tail and a dark blue head was reported speeding over the city center.
“A doctor in Moseley then saw it fall from the sky over the Stirchley area.
“The two officers questioned the doctor and on the way back saw a thick, elliptical object with a blue field around it, with a red line in the middle, hovering over a grove of trees.
“In a matter of seconds, it shrank in on itself and disappeared. I thought they were joking.”
Witnesses in the Oxford area later reported seeing a D-shaped object following the contours of the land.
He went on to have his own UFO sightings, including one with his son when they saw two giant “spheres” the size of rubbish bin lids moving across the night sky over Alvechurch.
The Sun revealed that Prince Philip was an avid fan of John’s Haunted Skies UFO books and had several in his private library.
