I’m an Apple expert – why you should be VERY careful when there’s an iPhone on the table

New York TikTok user @chillrogg shared the sneaky trick in a video posted to his 370,000 followers last week.

“Now y’all can spy on each other… don’t get in too much trouble with this lol,” he wrote alongside the post.

His trick uses Live Listen, a software tool bundled with the Apple AirPods and Beats headphones that improves users’ hearing.

It was designed to help the hearing impaired, but also makes it easy for mean scammers to eavesdrop on conversations.

The little-known tool has been included in iPhone’s iOS operating system since 2018 and appears as an ear icon once you activate it.

It helps the hearing impaired by allowing them to place their iPhone close to a person who has difficulty hearing them.

But people can command Live Listen to spy on their boss or partner by hiding their iPhone in the same room as their victim — or simply place it on a table they’re sitting at.

Anyone using the tool can increase the volume of their iPhone’s microphone to spy on someone using it AirPods.

The iPhone microphone transmits whatever is said to a trickster in another room, up to 15 meters away.

Eavesdroppers can also use an Apple Watch to spy on people by leaving the watch in a room with someone they want to eavesdrop on.

When it first launched, Apple fans expressed concerns about the new feature on social media.

“AirPods can now listen live. SMH! Men are about to get caught lol,” one person tweeted.

“Just wait til all these new AirPod kids figure out ‘listen live’ and become amateur James Bonds,” wrote another.

“Use Live Listening to overhear my parents fight and make sure my name doesn’t get dropped,” said one Twitter user.

Apple has not commented on the tool’s potential for spying on people.

It’s a far cry from the first iPhone hack to go viral on TikTok.

Last month, user @theapplecollector a cell phone highlighted Apple keyboard hack this makes editing text much easier.

Many iOS users are unaware that their iPhone comes with a trackpad feature that makes selecting text and moving the cursor much easier.

You can use this function in any text field, e.g. B. in your notes app, a search bar, or a text message.
