ICELAND is a well-known, perhaps unsurprising, store for frozen goods – but there’s really more to the store than you’ll find.
That’s why we’ve recruited an in-store employee to provide detailed information on all the store floor secrets.
Here, store manager Simon Felstead reveals his top tips for landing a bargain and some of the funniest customer encounters he’s had…
Earn a Bonus Bargain
Simon has worked for Iceland for 29 years and runs one of the busy branches in London.
What he doesn’t know about the store isn’t worth knowing, and to make sure you know about the best deals, Simon has some tips.
He said: “Sign up for the Rewards Card, which you can also do through the app, as there are some exclusive offers on our great products.
“You can also order our free home delivery when you complete an online order of £40 or more, or an order of £25 or more if you shop in-store.”
There are also specific times of the week and year, which are worth keeping in mind if you’re looking to buy heavily discounted items.
“We have a range review after Christmas and just before summer, where we halve the prices of some of our existing products, to make room for some new and exciting lines,” says Simon. .
“We also change grocery deals on the front of the store every two weeks, and we also change many other prices every four weeks, so shoppers should keep an eye out for deals afterward. .”
Many first-time customers also don’t realize the difference Iceland has to offer.
“Some people are surprised that we don’t just sell frozen foods, but we also sell a wide range of groceries and fresh chilled products,” says Simon.
“We’ve had a few customers ask if we sell garden equipment and light bulbs.
“A lot of customers ask if we sell ice – which we obviously do!
“Some of our customers say we moved something when in fact they never moved.
“We’ve had examples of customers insisting that our eggs were across the store the day before, even though they were in the same spot.
“We also get some customers saying ‘it’s too cold in here’ – that’s why it’s called Iceland!”
The store also sells a surprisingly large range of brands, at a fraction of the price.
“We sell a lot of Greggs, exclusive TGI Fridays and Harry Ramsden ranges in store,” said Simon.
“Customers are often surprised that we sell these brands in Iceland and how great they taste.
“Our frozen Greggs sausage rolls are an especially great seller.”
Some customers can’t afford to shop enough, and like a pub, Simon’s Iceland store also has a regular store.
“We have a lot of regular customers and we tend to see some of them once or twice a day, which is great,” says Simon.
“A lot of our customers even know us by our first name.”
In addition to being able to earn a bargain as a client, there are also advantages to working for the company.
Simon adds: “We get 10% off everything we buy, and twice a year we get 20% off for a week so we can try new products.
“We also have a regional staff party in December, covered by Iceland as a thank you for everyone’s hard work throughout the year.
“There are also plenty of rewards programs for our teams throughout the year.”
