DEAR DEIDRE: I was dumped by a woman with whom I had a brief affair.
I met her at work when she came to our office. She is from South Africa.

We started seeing each other and three months later she moved in with me and her son.
We got engaged a few weeks later. We were very happy. I am so proud to be with her.
I am 47 years old and she is 43. Her son is 21 years old.
I make sure they have everything they need. They don’t want anything.
Her son then decided to move in with a friend. His mother said that she would stay with him for a few days to make sure he settled down.
I thought she would come back, but then we lost contact.
Her son came to collect their remaining belongings and said that his mother was disappointed in the way I treated her.
All issues receive a personal response, usually within 24 hours on weekdays.
He said I didn’t do enough for them. I was shocked and cried.
I loved and missed her but I did feel taken advantage of.
DEIDRE SAYS: You jump into a relationship quickly, but you have nothing to blame yourself for, except perhaps being overly trusting.
You shed tears for her but then try to make up your mind to move on.
Next time you like someone, take things slow at first, so you can be confident that they like you before going too deep.
Think friends to start with, not potential partners.
My package of Finding the Right Partner for You will help you get started.
