I’m horrified after ‘car cannibals’ destroyed my vehicle while I was at a gig… it was the worst night of my life

A WOMAN was left in shock after “car cannibals” completely dismantled her vehicle in just under two hours while she was at a performance.

Rebecca Scotland, 27, had been enjoying her evening – en route to a performance at the O2 Academy in Birmingham for around two and a half hours.

But the woman was horrified when she returned to the car to find thieves had completely dismantled the front of her Citroen C1.

The thieves had smashed the windows to open the hood – and ripped out the engine.

Speak with BBC Radio DerbyRebecca Scotland said: “It turned out that the front exterior of it had been removed.

“The bonnet, the headlights, the bumper and also a smashed window so they could open the bonnet.

“I thought the car looked a bit strange. I thought it was the lighting.

“It’s my first car, my baby. I think one of the reasons I’m so devastated is that I still have to pay for it until I’m 30 and I’ll be 28 next month.”

Rebecca’s insurance paid for the repairs after the theft, which took place in November.

She said: “You’d think they’d go for the more expensive cars, but they just seem to pick at what’s popular.”

More than 100 suspects have been arrested by West Midlands Police in a vehicular crime investigation.

A spokesman said: “We set up the specialist vehicle crime task force to stop thieves who have not only caused great inconvenience but have jeopardized livelihoods across the region.

“Since the team launched in September, it has made just over 100 arrests through early December, with just under 50 facing criminal charges.

“There have been prison sentences here and others awaiting sentencing.”

According to Insurance Edgenearly 102,000 vehicles were stolen in England and Wales in 2021.
