A driving instructor who has successfully taught millions of people does it all from the comfort of their own home.

Pin Binning, 40, from Wolverhampton, has amassed over a million TikTok followers with his tips for learners just starting out on YouTube.

At the age of 27, he first started working as a driving instructor and in 2014 he became self-employed with the DGN driving school.

Pin created a YouTube channel teaching people how to drive in 2018 and now has over 429,000 subscribers and almost 101,000,000 views.

He said: “My YouTube channel is the most subscribed to driving instructors channel in the UK and even the world I believe.

“This was all new to me so when I started the YouTube channel I also had to learn how to edit videos.

“The more videos I made the better they got and for me it really took off, it went extremely well. It just exploded!”

Pin admitted he encouraged it early on: “I’d be lying if I said it was planned and strategically planned. It was just a way for me to help my students.

“My goal was to showcase my skills as a driving instructor, show my pedagogical skills and methods, and help drivers. I give them tips that they might not get from their own driving instructors.”

Following the success of his YouTube channel, Pin decided to try his hand at TikTok during lockdown.

He said: “I thought well let’s try to do TikTok videos too, it’s a platform for me to educate people in short clips.

“Again it completely exploded and flew off for me. I didn’t expect this kind of reaction, but in exactly two years I reached a million followers!

“The business has grown so much because of social media and I’ve had to take a step back from teaching.”

The social media mogul’s videos have a total of 45 million likes.

Pin continued his TikTok efforts by starting an online program called Ultimate Driving Course.

He said: “A lot of teachers will take out a book and go through it with their students during class and spend time going through it.

“I thought it would be easier for students to have a series of videos covering each and every one of these topics, so I created a course that has been very popular and is now the best-selling course.

“The way people learn these days is very different and so obviously people love to learn through TikTok and YouTube.

“Students no longer have to spend their class time on books and studying because they can do it in their own free time.”

Pin’s journey to becoming a social media star hasn’t been easy, as the driving instructor has to work full-time and edit videos in his free time, in addition to being a husband and father.

He said: “Constantly creating content for YouTube wasn’t easy at first. It was incredibly tough and hard making the transition from driving instructor to part-time content creator and now full-time content creator.

“But I kept working hard and creating content all the time and putting in so much hard work to make the YouTube channel grow and it finally did, which allowed me to take a step back from teaching.”

Pin attributes his success to hard work and “a bit of luck,” as well as his supportive family: “I’ve also had incredible support from my wife. She has been so supportive of me in everything I do. My wife Kav is practically my business partner.

“Balancing everything was not easy, but with the fantastic support from her and our children, we have achieved success together as a family.”
