I’m tired of the constant crashing of cars on my street…the council won’t do anything, so I made my own sign

A LOCAL fed up with accidents on their street says the council won’t do anything about it so they put up their own sign.
The homemade ‘stupid thin road’ sign was erected on St Anne’s Lane in Leeds’ Burley area to reduce congestion and accidents.
Motorists are often forced to drive on the verge to pass one another, and one local resident has claimed “you see a car crash twice a week”.
The business owner, who was not named, said The Yorkshire Evening Post: “When you go down, it’s scary. It gets backed up at rush hour. There is constant beeping and constant accidents from the road. That’s not an exaggeration.”
Another neighbor agreed, adding: “Some drivers on the road are very impatient, when you pull into the driveway people try to pull you around. We saw wing mirrors cut off.
“I’d like to think that the sign would make people a little more aware that it’s a very narrow street. It’s difficult when we get supplies, but it is what it is. That hasn’t changed in the ten years that we’ve been here.”
Another neighbor said motorists on the street are “very impatient” because “when you pull into the driveway people try to drive around you”.
She claimed that motorists use the road as a thoroughfare and inappropriate vehicles such as trucks also use it, compounding the problems.
The woman said: “We saw wing mirrors being cut off. It’s a bit frustrating, but not a big problem.”
Asked if there had been an attempt to alert the council to the problems and possibly widen the road, she said: “To be honest I wouldn’t want it widened. I just think it needs to be controlled more.”
When asked if she thought the sign had any impact on drivers, she said: “I’d like to think it makes people a little bit more aware that it’s a very narrow road. It’s difficult when we get supplies, but it is what it is. It hasn’t changed in the 10 years we’ve been here.”
However, not all residents on the road seem to be bothered, and another neighbor downplayed the severity, saying, “It’s fine.”
Narrow lanes are a problem for motorists, according to an RAC study, with three in ten motorists saying they make every effort to avoid narrow streets.
More than half of drivers (58 percent) in a sample group said they find driving on narrow country roads stressful, with 76 percent sharing the stress experienced by drivers living in urban areas.
The RAC said: “For any driver who is less adept at tackling rural roads, the message must be to plan a journey properly before setting off and drive at the right speed depending on the road conditions, even if the official limit is 60 miles.” per hour is. We also advise against over-reliance on a car’s sat nav.”
