Images of a serious accident near the Southerham roundabout on the A27

THESE images show the scene after a serious collision between a truck and a motorcycle on the A27.

Part of the road between Southerham Roundabout in Lewes and Beddingham Roundabout was closed after a collision between the two vehicles just after 7.30am.

There is a detour in parts of Sussex, leading to congestion along the A26 near the coast to Newhaven and west on the A259 to Seaford.

Police were called to the scene of the accident, with a crime scene marker placed on the road near debris.

A forensic scientist was also spotted at the scene of the incident setting up a screen along part of the A27.

A National Highways spokesman confirmed that “at least one person sustained serious injuries.”

He said: “Sussex Police are currently leading the response to a serious collision between a motorcycle and a lorry, which was reported around 7.38am this morning.

“The road was closed in both directions so that the emergency services can work safely on site.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The A27 is currently closed in both directions between Beddingham and Southerham roundabouts in Lewes following a serious collision this morning.

“It is expected to remain closed for a few hours while officers respond.

“Drivers are advised to look for other routes.”
