Imogen Thomas paid tribute to her friend Nikki Grahame ahead of the one-year anniversary of her tragic death on Saturday, revealing how in her final weeks she became so frail she could not walk up the stairs.
Big Brother star Nikki lost her battle with anorexia last year aged 38, a day after she was discharged from hospital after gaining weight.
Imogen, who first became friends with Nikki in the 2006 series, reflected on their time together and how she even tried to get Nikki into sections to save her life.
Imogen revealed how the bubbly TV star, who has suffered from the eating disorder since she was eight, relapsed when gyms closed during the 2020 pandemic.
she said The sun : “She was deteriorating so much, she had no control over it, she was so sick.
“When she tried to walk up the stairs, she couldn’t move her legs and had to use her hands to lift them up. She called me a few weeks before she died and said she wanted to die.
“She didn’t want to be anorexic, she really wanted to fight it, but there was a part of her head that just couldn’t do it.”
Imogen said she was so worried about Nikki that she tried to have her cut, but Nikki refused to go to the hospital, telling her it made her condition worse because “patients would have a competition to to see who can be the skinniest”.
As Nikki’s health deteriorated, her friend Leon Dee started a GoFundMe to fund private treatment after Nikki ‘exhausted every option’ with the NHS – and raised more than £70,000.
The star was hospitalized after falling in a pharmacy and fracturing her lower spine.
“She was in a pharmacy when she fell and broke her lower spine,” revealed her mother, Sue OK! recently. “She called me crying and said, ‘I was in an accident — I collapsed and fell on my back.’
“On the first day in the hospital, two doctors said her condition was life-threatening. Her weight was the lowest it had been since she reached adulthood.”
Nikki managed to gain 4kg and felt motivated to go to convalescence after seeing support from generous fans online.
However, a day after being discharged from the hospital, Nikki sadly passed away.
In tribute, Imogen described her friend as “so mischievous” and the “life and soul of the party”.
The former reality star plans to celebrate her 40th birthday later this month on the beach, with an expresso martini in her honor.
