In a “car pound” with Audis, BMWs and Range Rovers yoked to be auctioned off after drivers failed to pay their fines

DRIVERS who don’t pay their road tax have their vehicles towed to a murky auto junkyard.
More than 14,000 motorists in Reading, Berkshire, were fined for tax evasion last year and some are losing their vehicles as a result.
The Driver and Vehicle Registration Authority (DLVA) cracks down on car owners who try to evade their tax payments.
Her message to drivers is simple: “Tax it, don’t risk it.”
Every week, the DVLA issues thousands of fines for non-payment of taxes or vehicle excise duties.
Special camera technology is used to scan license plates and verify that a motorist is up to date with their payments.

If the system identifies the vehicle as unpaid, the driver will be fined and the car will be detained until paid for.
But if the penalty is ignored the car can be removed and taken to a shelter like the one in Reading, BerkshireLive reports.
Audis, BMWs and Range Rovers are all waiting to be sold after their owners were caught trying to exceed the mandatory rates.
Once locked up, the car threatens to be either auctioned off or destroyed.
Photos from the yard show rows of unclaimed vehicles awaiting their yet-to-be-determined fate.
