In just three days, Fortnite raised almost as much money for Ukraine as entire countries

Epic has announced that it has raised over $50 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine via Fortnite as part of its pledge to support the country amid the Russian invasion. This comes just three days after this effort to raise funds, with all proceeds from now through April 3rd contributing to this gargantuan amount.

Rather than just congratulating Epic Games on this incredible move that will undoubtedly save lives in Ukraine – which, to be honest, they totally deserve – we thought we’d take the time to compare that amount to that , to which countries around the world have donated to the humanitarian effort to highlight the huge impact this will have on civilians in need.

Australia – $50 million

The great country Down Under has gone to great lengths to support the Ukrainian people. In addition to US$96 million in military funds, the country has provided more than US$50 million in humanitarian assistance. This means that as things stand, any humanitarian aid received by a person in Ukraine is likely to be paid for by the people of Australia as much as it is by the residents of Fortnite.

Finland – $86 million

Finland is a consistent supporter of Ukraine when it comes to humanitarian aid and has pledged an additional 10 million euros to the country in response to recent events. In total, the state has made 86 million euros available since 2014 – not a bad performance! Fortnite players have hit nearly half that number in just three days – something to be really proud of.

Japan $200 million

The Japanese government has agreed Provide $200 million financial aid to Ukraine as well as providing tents, food, generators and other useful equipment to help those in need in Ukraine. When you consider that Japan was the third largest country by GDP in 2020, that should put into perspective how impressive it is to raise $50 million in such a short period of time.

These are just three of many countries that have supported Ukraine in the current crisis. Of course, raising funds for such a cause is not a competition, and any amount donated by a country is an act of kindness. Comparing the numbers collected by Fortnite with the contributions from these countries gives a clearer picture of just how excellent the relief effort is. We hope they can break the $100 million mark by April 3rd! In just three days, Fortnite raised almost as much money for Ukraine as entire countries
