Guests in one of Britain’s spookiest places holiday home s can sleep with axes hanging over their heads – for the princely sum of £1,000 a night.

Plane Castle, a 14th-century fortress in Stirling, central Scotland, has been adorned by royalty such as Mary, Queen of Scots, and Prince Charles.

But now ordinary folk who dare to enter can sleep in the royal battlements by booking a three-night minimum stay for £3,206 Airbnbthe daily record reports.

His spooky inside has become the subject of debate after an actor posted a picture of him room on social media.

Actor Rick Carr has uploaded a spooky photo of his single bed – with two axes hanging over his head.

And he wrote from his @rscarr account: “We all live in a castle. And this is my room for the week.”

The castle is in a rural setting and is divided into two buildings that can be rented separately or together.

Both the tower, built in 1449, and the manor house, built in 1523, are available to rent for a minimum of three nights at a cost of £3,206.

Rick’s tweets have gone viral, with thousands commenting on their thoughts and feelings about the unusual abode.

One user said, “I’d rather sleep outside. Without a tent. Or a sleeping bag. Than stay in this room.”

Another said they were “having nightmares” after seeing the pics, and a third wrote: “I’m going to write a thriller about it […] and I can tell you now it’s not going to end well.”

But some people say they love the medieval room, posting “I’d love to stay there,” “It looks great,” and “That’s gorgeous! My kind of stay”.

Hotels.com UK even retweeted Rick’s pictures and wrote: “Wondering if they have a moat pool, tbh”.

The chateau is described online as a ‘magical, yet welcoming and comfortable holiday home’.

It features seven 14-bed bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a variety of period features, including spiral staircases, stone-vaulted rooms, and portraits of Jane Seymour.

The castle is also a popular spot for wedding bookings, with large gardens complete with ponds and a rowing boat.
