Independent Clare TD will vote against the government in Sinn Féin’s motion of no confidence

Clare Independent Michael McNamara – a former Labor Party TD – says he will not trust the government tomorrow.

r McNamara, seen as a reliable MP against a possible general election as a non-partisan MP, said he was not voting for the confidence “because the government makes no attempt to control the things it can control”.

He added that he had not been contacted by the Taoiseach since Sinn Féin announced its motion of no confidence in the tripartite coalition last week.

“My main reason for the no-confidence vote is the mess the government is wreaking on the legislature. It doesn’t provide enough time for debate,” he told Independent.ie.

“Laws boomeranged out of the Oireachtas and straight into the courts, where they were found flawed, and boomeranged back into the Dáil.

“And the government is still not learning. It hastily prepares legislation and then gives half an hour to debate it lest it be properly drafted and scrutinized.

“That’s why I’m going to express my distrust. The government makes no attempt to control the things it can control. It approaches things in a carefree way,” he added.
