Walorski, 58, was pronounced dead by her office after a head-on collision in Elkhart County. A South Bend native, he was first elected to Congress in 2012 as the Republican representative for Indiana’s 2nd Circuit.

“Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, has just been notified by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office that Jackie died in a car accident this afternoon. She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. We will have no further comment at this time.” This was announced by Walorski’s office in a statement.

NBC News reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has ordered the flags at the US Capitol to be flown at half-mast over Walorski’s death. Two employees died in the accident, as did the driver of the other vehicle.
