The Wet Leg rising stars have won their first Grammy, less than two years since their first live performance.
His Isle Of Wight-based rock duo, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, won two gongs at one of the biggest nights on the music industry’s calendar in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The pair took home the awards for Best Alternative Music Performance and Alternative Music Album at the 65th annual ceremony, shyly walking up to the stage to accept the award.
“This is so funny, thank you so much. What are we doing here? I do not know. But here we are,” said Teasdale, accepting the first award.
Then, speaking in the winners’ room after their first two wins, she told the PA news agency they couldn’t “calculate” their success over the past 18 months.
“It’s very weird, very magical. We can’t calculate,” Teasdale said.
The pair laughed in the room for the Grammy winners and gave them thumbs up as they left.
Longtime friends formed the band in 2019 and signed with Domino Recording Company, which represents artists including Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip.

On the same day, their album was announced as part of a strong 12-man shortlist for the coveted Mercury Prize.
Responding to the nomination, they said: “It’s been over a year since our first concert and we’re all still in shock at where this journey has taken us.
“When we formed the band, we never really thought we’d get the chance to make any records, let alone an entire album…and now that album is nominated. The Mercury Prize left us completely speechless.
“We feel very fortunate to be able to make the album that we made. Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way. Feeling very proud and grateful today.”
