Inside “Future Life in 2040” with robot deliveries, taxi drones and CHEAPER bills

BRITS have unveiled the technological innovations they would like to see – including autonomous public transport, robotic delivery vehicles and taxi drones.

As smart technologies become more commonplace in our lives, a study of 2,000 adults found that six out of ten are excited about what the future of technology holds.

On-street car chargers, hoverboards, intelligent personal transportation, and flying vehicles have also been among the technological advances people are hoping for.

It also showed that 44 percent are confident that technological developments over the next 20 years will surpass those of the previous two decades.

While three quarters admit they are still overwhelmed by some of the technologies that exist today, including the modern mobility already on Britain’s roads, smart supermarkets and smart assistants in our homes.

The research that coincides with Zegos Vision 2040 for the future of mobility, also found that half of adults can remember older generations telling them stories “back then” when they were amazed by new technologies.

And 64 percent will pass on this tradition and tell younger people what technology was like for this generation.

Sten Saar, CEO of commercial motor insurer Zego, which is already developing solutions for the future of mobility, said: “I share Britain’s surprise at the technology that is out there today and I fully agree that development from here will only increase.

“That is why we are launching our Vision 2040 for the future of mobility.

“It might have looked like a sci-fi movie five years ago, but we’re confident that the future will look something like this, and we’re already researching insurance products to support that kind of autonomous future.”

The study also found that nearly one in five (19 percent) would like to drive in fully autonomous vehicles that drive you automatically to your chosen destination.

14 percent want fully autonomous delivery trucks that deliver your package where it suits you, and 15 percent hope that delivery drones will zip through the skies and bring their goods to the customer.

It also found that gadget lovers each own between one and six smart tech devices, and more than half already use online banking, contactless payments and GPS maps when on the go.

Partly due to the pandemic, seven out of 10 people use video calls for work and to keep in touch with friends and family.

For transport, 36 percent already use electric or hybrid vehicles, e-scooters or transport apps.

But six in ten adults believe Britain’s roads could be made safer and greener if more money was invested in technology to combat driving problems.

Some of those polled by OnePoll believe autonomous cars could help improve road safety, including vehicles made from lighter materials to reduce impact in the event of an accident and, if electric, emit no exhaust fumes.

Sten Saar added: “63 percent of people expect lower insurance premiums as technology advances.

“While 57 percent believe insurance companies could offer better products and services if they invested more in technology.

“As energy sources and automated vehicles evolve, we at Zego firmly believe that the insurance sector needs to keep up to make our 2040 vision of safer and more sustainable mobility a reality.”
