Inside Jeff Bezos’ Orbital Reef space station, which could offer HOLIDAYS in just five years

BLUE Origin is one step closer to launching its Orbital Reef space station — and potentially just five years away.

Expected to hover 250 miles above Earth, it will host astronauts, businesses and space tourists.

Blue Origin is the brainchild of the billionaire Amazon founder jeff bezosOrbital Reef intends to be operational by 2027.

Now Nasa has reviewed the plans and given the green light to enter the design phase.

It puts Bezos’ floating space headquarters in a prime position to succeed the International Space Station (ISS).

The ISS is currently scheduled to be deorbited in 2031 when its historic remains will plummet into the remote South Pacific.

According to Blue Origin, the permit “moves Orbital Reef forward.”

“We serve both the needs of the commercial market and the requirements of NASA,” said Brent Sherwood, SVP of Blue Origin.

“Orbital Reef will change the game for human spaceflight in Earth orbit.”

Orbital Reef has been described as a “mixed-use commercial area”.

It is designed to support 10 people at a time and will be used for both commercial activities and space tourism.

That means prospective astronauts can pay to spend some time aboard the spacecraft.

It’s also designed to be much more luxurious than the ISS.

“Orbital Reef introduces a new breed of space architecture,” Blue Origin explained.

“Spacious modules with large, earth-facing windows allow travelers to take in the beauty of our planet and experience the thrill of weightlessness in complete comfort.

“Separate living and working quarters and large hatches create a safe, meaningful and inspiring environment.

“In our orbital community, you will find housing facilities for any length of stay, supported by medical care and recreational opportunities.”

Blue Origin says astronauts can see “16 vivid sunrises and sunsets a day” and described the experience as “life-changing.”

The Bezos-backed space giant has partnered with a host of other companies and schools to make Orbital Reef a reality.
